The Iron Bridge Initiative (TIBI) is a Mumbai based organization that has been developed keeping in mind, the key concerns around thalassemia within the unique geographical, economic and cultural context of India. In essence, the project is a multipronged approach towards tackling the core focus areas around thalassemia care. These approaches include the establishment of a health camp to further increase access for disadvantaged communities (be it socially or economically), by providing access to medical professionals, thorough medical examination, as well as lifestyle counselling.
Furthermore, TIBI also focuses on holistic mental wellbeing. Simultaneously, TIBI aims to serve as a distribution channel for the supply and deliverance of iron supplements and vitamin supplements and other medical necessities, primarily focusing on women and children. These interventions are also supported via an interview series that platforms individuals with insights arising from their lived experience of the disorder (in association with the Thalassemia Awareness & Eradication Campaign established by the National Thalassemia Welfare Society). Through national seminars and webinars, TIBI in collaboration with NTWS has created a platform amongst doctors and gynaecologists to emphasise the importance of a blood test amongst marriage age couples, as well as
awareness and prevention of thalassemia. TIBI has initiated and organised a series of brochures emphasising early testing, diet and supportive treatment for thalassemics.
